How would you explain the theory of motivation of greedy officials who stay in position and be always reelected?
McClelland’s Acquired Needs Theory: David McClelland proposed that one’s needs are acquired over time as a result of their experiences. He identified three motivators that he believed we all have: a need for achievement, a need for affiliation, and a need for power. People will have different characteristics depending on their dominant motivator. That is, every person holds an aspiration for achievement, power or affiliation. Consequently, a person’s behavior and performance at work are strongly influenced by the most meaningful of the three needs. If a greedy official does not intend to serve, then only power and wealth motivates him to be reelected over and over again. Government officials have access to a tremendous amount of wealth, and consequently, in the Philippines, wealth equates to power. A greedy official can have his eyes in the seat of power if his inner workings tell him to do so. This explains why officials insist on being in power.
