What is the Sunflower Galaxy?
Sunflower Galaxy is a spiral galaxy object of interest in space. It lies at a distance of 37000 light years away in the constellation of Canes Venatici. It is referred to as M63 when it was catalogued by Charles Messier in 18th – 19th Century France. It is referred to as NGC(5055) in the New General Catalogue. This is a list of deep space objects that was compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888 in an update to John Herschel earlier catalogue. In the mid-19th century, Lord Rosse identified spiral structures within the galaxy, making this one of the first galaxies in which such structure was identified. In 1971, a supernova with a magnitude of 11.8 appeared in one of the arms of M63. Sunflower Galaxy was discovered in 1779 by Pierre Mechain. The Spiral Galaxy’s location is 13:15.8 (R.A.) and +42:02 (Dec.). It’s Visual Brightness is an 8.6 Magnitude and has an apparent magnitude of 9 with an apparent dimension of 10×6.
