What theory of motivation explains married men having mistresses?

Alderfer’s ERG Theory: In contrast to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs which state that one need at a time can only be satisfied as you go up the pyramid, Alderfer’s ERG Theory states that a person can satisfy his needs simultaneously at a given time. ERG stands for Existence needs, Relatedness needs, and Growth needs. Alderfer also stated that as you start satisfying higher needs, they become intense, sort of like an addiction. This can mean that when a married man prioritizes his Relatedness needs, which pertains to satisfactory relations with others, then it is more likely that he finds affection and sex outside his marriage. In reality, no marriage is perfect, therefore, there will be times when a partner will fail to accommodate the needs of their partner. This would cause the man to neglect his partner and start searching for other people who would satisfy his much-prioritized needs for relatedness. Though he is aware that this would cause his marriage and family life to crumble, his intense desire for sexual relations and intimacy surpasses his cognitive reasoning due to his addiction.
