Who is James Cameron?

James Cameron was born on August 16, 1954, in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada. He is a Canadian filmmaker known for his expansive vision and innovative special-effects films, most notably Titanic for which he won an Academy Award for best director, and Avatar. In 1978, Cameron co-directed and co-wrote his first film, a science-fiction short titled, Xenogenesis. The short eventually helped Cameron get a job with New World Pictures, a production company run by the famed B-movie director Roger Corman. Within New World Pictures, Cameron became the art director for the 1980 film Battle Beyond the Stars and the director for his first feature film, Piranha Part II: The Spawning. In 1984, Cameron received his first major break-through in The Terminator.  In 1998 Cameron defied critics with Titanic, his screen adaptation of the doomed ocean liner’s 1912 maiden voyage. Written, directed, and co-produced by Cameron, Titanic was one of the most expensive movies ever made, but it broke box-office records and tied Ben-Hur for most Academy Awards won. Skillfully blending special effects with a fictional love story between a penniless artist and an unhappily engaged first-class passenger, Titanic stood atop the American charts for an unprecedented 15 weeks and earned more than $1.8 billion to become the highest-grossing movie in the world.
