What is Depression?
Depression is among the leading causes of disability worldwide. Most people mistake clinical depression for just being simply sad. If you suspect that you are depressed, it is important that you see your doctor as soon as possible. Major depressive disorder is characterized by a fairly lengthy period of time, at least two weeks, during which a person feels sad or hopeless or lacks focus in life, on a daily or almost daily basis, for the most part of each day. This condition is associated with many other symptoms which can have repercussions emotionally, socially, professionally and in other significant areas of life. it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn’t worth living. More than just about of the blues, depression isn’t a weakness and you can’t simply shake it off. Depression may require long-term treatment. But don’t get discouraged. Most people with depression feel better with medication, psychotherapy or both.
