What is Duwende?

Duwendes are goblins, hobgoblins, leprechaun, elves or dwarfs. They are little creatures that can give a good or bad fortune and fate to humans. Duwendes are said to be in houses, trees, underground, termite-like mound and rural areas. Duwendes live in colonies beneath the earth and only leave their cavern in times of crisis and to swarm. Duwende colonies have a hierarchy and colonies consist of sterile females forming castes of “workers,” “soldiers,” or other specialized groups, some fertile males called “drones,” and one or more fertile females called “queens.” There are also different types of Dwendes. Duwendeng itim are dirty looking duwendes wearing torn black clothes, barefooted and smells like rotten meat. They are said to be underling of demon and full of lies. Do not trust them and never ever accept anything from them. They will try to feed you with a black-colored rice so that they can possess you or own your soul. Duwendeng puti are kind. They can help you cure witchcraft but they are choosy on who will help. They give blessings to amulet for speed, invisibility, strength, and other powers.
