What is Caipirinha?
For a cocktail with only three ingredients, you’d think it wouldn’t be so hard to make. Except that it actually isn’t hard to make. In fact, it’s super easy. Sweet, tart and strong, the caipirinha is mixed with the Brazilian spirit cachaça. Cachaça is similar to rum but made from sugarcane rather than molasses. Cut up a lime and put it in a glass. Add brown sugar. Two heaping tablespoons should do. Muddle the lime and the sugar until no sugar grains remain and you’re left with a beautiful caramel-colored syrup. Add three ounces of Cachaça. Cachaça is often referred to as Brazilian rum, but it is not a rum. Cachaca is a spirit made from fresh sugar cane juice whereas rum can also be made from sugar cane syrup or molasses. In short, cachaça is purer than rum because it always uses clean ingredients. Finish this drink with ice and serve immediately.
