What is the Sydney Conservatorium of Music?

The Sydney Conservatorium of Music is the premier music school in Australia. It is also one of the oldest schools, as it was built in 1915, with the design of Architect Francis Greenway. It’s been at the heart of Sydney’s cultural life, home to leading musicians and the first full-time orchestra in the country. It is a diverse set of musicians since both professional musicians and students played in the orchestra. Perched on the shore above the harbor, its distinctive turrets have welcomed generations of music lovers arriving at dusk for a concert.  The Sydney Conservatorium of Music celebrates its centenary in 2015. This lavishly illustrated history records its story, from its humble beginnings in the old Government House stables, to its current accommodation in facilities that are, by any measure, outstanding. The facilities are also notable since the Conservatorium housed a Concert Hall, 270 seat music workshop, twin recital halls, and 130 practice rooms. The Sydney Conservatorium of Music offers bachelor degrees in music, performance, composition, and education.
