What is the meaning of The Fool card?

Much of the imagery in The Fool centers around innocence and optimism – the white rose in his hand and the sun, in particular. His environment,  an almost primordial landscape with no signs of civilization – along with his few belongings indicate a sense of removal and lack of ties. Since he is just starting out on his journey, The Fool does not have the pleasure or burden of relationships, work, and experience. This card encourages us to trust our natural instincts, but at the same time advises us to not set out blindly on a new journey, as an unforeseen complication may arise. The Fool is also the card that reminds us that while life may be full of surprises and unfamiliar situations, we should trust that all will be well. In a tarot reading, this card can indicate a change of direction, one that will guide you to personal growth. It also means that we should keep the faith, and we would gain loyal and positive people along our journey.
