What is a Dermatologist?

A dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting skin, hair, nails, sweat and oil glands, mucous membranes which can include cancer. The skin is the largest and most visible organ of the body and reflects the health of the body. Dermatologists are highly trained diagnosticians and can distinguish between conditions that share similar symptoms. Today, many dermatologists are also well versed in cosmetic dermatology procedures to help improve the appearance of skin as we age.  Most Dermatologists are skin surgeons as well as physicians. Skin surgery is an important part of practice, especially with the rapid rise in skin cancer – skin this being the most prevalent of all cancers.
