Who is Pablo Picasso?
Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Malaga, Spain. He was the first child of Don Jose Ruiz y Blasco, an art teacher, and Maria Picasso y Lopez. At an early age, Pablo showed an interest in drawing. In 1896 Pablo’s first large academic oil painting, “The First Communion”, appeared in an exhibition in Barcelona. His second large oil painting, “Science and Charity” received honorable mention in the national exhibition of fine art in Madrid and was awarded a gold medal in a competition at Málaga In 1907, Picasso painted one of his most important works – Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, – creating with painter and sculptor Georges Braque the brand new art movement known as “Cubism”. Cubism allowed the artist to show his/her model from many different viewpoints. Pablo Picasso passed away at last on April 8, 1973, at the age of 92. He was buried on the grounds of his Chateau Vauvenargues.
