In contrast to 2016 sales, nickel exports increased by 47% in 2017. Prices of nickel ore exports averaged at $31.34 per WMT, much higher than the average of $15.78 per WMT in 2016. Copper is also a lucrative product that is being exported to East Asian Countries, and as of 2015, Japan is highest importer of Copper from the Philippines, and 50.1% of Copper exports worth $431.1 million are sold to Japan. South Korea and China are also importing high volumes of Copper worth $116.7 million and $80.2 million respectively. Mineral products are in demand in East Asia because these countries are using nickel and copper for metal fabrication, manufacture of non-electrical machinery, and non-ferrous foundries, transportation equipment, and other electronic gadgets.
