What is the effect of the mining ban in the Philippines in employment?

The Chamber of the Mines of the Philippines stated that the mining projects employ around 200,000 people according to a government data published last September 2017, and upcoming projects help create an estimate of additional 70,000 job opportunities. Artemio Disini, head of the Chamber of Mines argue that due to the stricter implementation of the existing laws about mining, more than a million people will be affected who mainly rely on mining to support the daily needs of a family. DMCI Holdings Inc. also reported that their number of work opportunities fell from 1,200 to only 50 after the controversial mining ban. One of the most controversial issues regarding the mining ban was when Winston Ordonez, a mine worker from Eramen Minerals Inc., committed suicide by hanging because he could not find a stable job after being laid off from the company due to the closures of mining companies. Another case regarding an affected worker, Ronald Esquiray used to work for DMCI Holdings Inc., but now, he earns half of what he used to get from his former job in which he weaves bamboo to create small huts.
