What is Chipotle?

What is Chipotle?

The CEO and co-founder of Chipotle, Steve Ells started the company in 1993. He based his ideas for Chipotle on inspiration he drew from the tacquerias in San Francisco’s Mission District. He opened the first restaurant in Denver, Colorado, expecting to open only one restaurant. He wanted to create a place where people could eat healthy food prepared quickly and affordably. Ells met ranchers and farmers dedicated to raising livestock and growing produce using responsible, respectful, and sustainable techniques. By partnering with these producers, he has increased the amount of naturally raised meats and responsibly grown produce they purchase exponentially. Since 1993, Chipotle has opened over 400 stores, and plan to continue opening more. This is great for the economy, not only are more job opportunities opening up, but Chipotle is also continuing to set a great example for other food companies, that naturally-raised meat, hormone-free food and organic produce can be used for large chain restaurants.
