What is Cancer?
Cancer is a group of conditions where the body’s cells begin to grow and reproduce uncontrollably. These cells can then invade and destroy healthy tissue, including organs. Cancer sometimes begins in one part of the body before spreading to other parts. This process is metastasis. Cancer also has the ability to spread throughout your body. Survival rates continue to improve for many types of cancer, thanks to improvements in cancer screening and cancer treatment. Cancer can be treated in a variety of ways, each dependent on which type of cancer it is and how far it has progressed. Every patient has their own treatment plan or protocol made out for them by their doctor. Most people suffer some side effects like hair loss, tiredness and sickness. There is no question that early detection of cancer saves lives, and that detecting and treating aggressive cancers early is playing a major role in the decreasing age-adjusted mortality from cancer.
