Who is Pope Francis?
Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina on December 17, 1936. In 1969, he was ordained a priest and made his final profession with the Jesuits in 1973. Later this year, he was appointed Provincial of the Jesuits in Argentina and held this position for six years. After this, he worked on the collegiate level as a rector and parish priest in San Miguel. He also served as a spiritual director and confessor in Buenos Aires. He became cardinal in 2001. During this lapse of time, he maintained his pastoral activities in the island while covering important roles within the Church institutions. During 2005 conclave, following the death of John Paul II, he had resulted as the second most voted candidate to the papacy after the newly elected pope Joseph Ratzinger.After the resignation of Benedict XVI, at the beginning of 2013, a less than twenty-six-hour long conclave named Jorge Mario Bergoglio as pope.
