What is Asus?
Asus was founded in Taipei in 1989 by T.H. Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh and M.T. Liao, all four having previously worked at Acer as hardware engineers. At this time, Taiwan had yet to establish a leading position in the computer-hardware business. Intel Corporation would supply any new processors to more established companies like IBMfirst, and Taiwanese companies would have to wait for approximately six months after IBM received their engineering prototypes. Asus started at the low end providing simple, reliable circuits for Dell—at a lower price than what Dell could do itself. in 2005, Asus announced the creation of its own brand of computers. Asus had taken everything it had learned from Dell and applied it for itself. It started at the simplest of activities in the value chain, then, decision by decision, every time that Dell outsourced the next lowest-value-adding of the remaining activities in its business, Asus added a higher value-adding activity to its business.
