What is Hepatitis?

Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. This condition can be caused by alcohol, chemicals, drugs, and viruses that attack the liver. People infected with hepatitis can experience effects ranging from mild illness to serious liver damage. Many recover completely from an infection, while others become carriers of the disease and can spread it to others unknowingly. Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C, which are the three most common types in the United States. Someone with chronic hepatitis, on the other hand, continues to be infectious and may have a variety of complications, including liver damage, liver failure, and liver cancer, depending on the type of hepatitis and the health of the infected person. The most infectious period for hepatitis A is usually from 2 weeks before jaundice starts until 1 week after. If you have hepatitis A you should stay away from school, early childhood center and work for 7 days from the onset of jaundice.
