How large is China and its power?

China is the third biggest country that borders on 14 other states including Russia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, South Korea, North Korea and Myanmar; also has maritime borders, disputed with other states including Japan and the 
 Philippines. For much of the cold war, these borders were sources of conflict; China possesses the largest population – 1.32 billion.  China has some of the world’s largest cities – Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. 
 Its population bigness has a major effect on many global issues relating to population, migration, labor and the environment. China is a rising military and nuclear power but still lagging behind the West in key areas. Its capability to project powers beyond its borders has been limited but the situation is slowly changing since China has been using military technology and developed new weaponry, including fighter jets and submarines and has been purchasing weapons, destroyers and submarines. China has been developing space technology, both for civilian and military use.
