What is Deng Xiaoping's goal?

Deng Xiaoping eventually took over Mao’s mantle, after a short interregnum when Hua Guofeng was chosen by Mao to succeed him.   n the drive for modernization, Deng pursued opening to the international community and opening to foreign
capital;
to pursue a stable international order that would ensure a peaceful environment for China’s modernization;
and the reunification with Taiwan.
Deng set the stage for serious reforms on the domestic level, particularly in the economic realm. He believed that with improved standards of living and increased international ties, major sources of protest within the country would be removed. He was aware that more openness would create strains on the Party, especially as foreign ideas began to slowly enter Chinese socio-political life. Deng saw this as a necessary price to pay for gaining foreign information and capital, and he wanted to make sure that there would be established a market-driven economy and no return to command economics.
