What is the role of international relations in the China Dream?
The China Dream identified strong international relations as a key step towards realizing the set of goals. In line with this, China has enhanced its relationship with developing countries in Latin America and Africa. The president frequently conducts visits to states such as South Africa, Tanzania, and the Republic of Congo, as these African countries are significant to China’s foreign policy. Furthermore, reinforcing the relations with Latin America and Africa would benefit China in securing energy resources. President Xi Jinping’s leadership also seeks to advocate a new type of major power relations with the United States based on the principle of non-confrontation, mutual respect, and mutual benefit. In addition to that, China has broadened its ties with the European Union and Russia. China is also no stranger to the idea of multilateralism and has reiterated the importance of international organizations such as the UN and BRICS nations. This has paved way for the creation of the BRICS Development Bank that targets a more equitable international political order. These steps taken by the People’s Republic shows that China is now more open to globalization and international cooperation to foster development in realizing the China Dream.
