What is Whatsapp Messenger?

WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform instant messaging application that allows iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia smartphone users to exchange text, image, video and audio messages for free.  WhatsApp has led the charge with the most users but now Facebook just gained a considerable advantage. Prior to this deal, Acton and Koum made millions of dollars without the need of advertising. Acton and Koum make money from WhatsApp in two ways. They charge iPhone users a one-time $.99 fee upon installation. They charge Android users $.99 every year (after the first year).Lots of people have paid Acton and Koum $.99.The Wall Street Journal reports that 250 million people use WhatsApp every month. Jan Koum picked a meaningful spot to sign the $19 billion deal to sell his company WhatsApp to Facebook earlier today. Koum, cofounder Brian Acton and venture capitalist Jim Goetz of Sequoia drove a few blocks from WhatsApp’s discreet headquarters in Mountain View to a disused white building across the railroad tracks, the former North County Social Services office where Koum, 37, once stood in line to collect food stamps.
