What can the Philippines do for the Rohingya refugee crisis?
To be able to demonstrate to the international community that the Philippines abide by international law, proposed on the following statements are three policy recommendations for the Rohingya and the Philippines as their asylum-providers. First, the Philippine government should take note that these people have a different language, culture, and upbringing, therefore, it is paramount to have a specialist in handling the refugees who can educate them on the protocol on how they will be eventually integrated into a willing host country. Second, the Philippine government should be willing to shell out a large amount of financial aid to cover the expenses providing a good living condition that follows the standard of a decent housing with at least three healthy meals a day. And third, schools and universities should have increased awareness of the rights of refugees. Through eliminating ignorance, the youth, who makes up a large portion of the Philippine population, can contribute their invigorating ideas in letting the whole Filipino community know that refugees, too, are normal people who have loved ones and personal dreams.
