Why should there be a reform on the education system to protect the rights of the LGBTQ+?

According to Gordon (2016), one of the common reasons of bullying and discrimination in school is having a different sexual orientation. Moreover, studies from Pathstone Mental Health revealed that the leading effects of severe bullying are withdrawal from family and school activities, wanting to be left alone, panic attacks, exhaustion, and suicide. The case of Jadin Bell’s suicide due to severe bullying caused a national discussion awareness on bullying and suicide.

An article written in NoBullying.Com states that the leading causes of why children bully other children are that these children come from dysfunctional families, have authority issues, and need to feel superior over those who are easily targeted. If bullying is not properly addressed by the social services and education sector in the Philippines, bullying becomes normative in society. When something becomes normative, people will accept an action or a belief as true, despite it being false or morally wrong. In order to lessen the number and risk of hate crimes, not only directed towards the LGBT community but the general welfare of the people, there must be a social awareness and an emphasis to the reformation of how homosexuality is being educated and portrayed in the Philippine education system.
