What is GrabTaxi’s history in Asia?

GrabTaxi or MyTeksi is an e-hailing application developed in Malaysia, as it was officially launched in June 2012. The founder’s goal was to create a platform for an online taxi service in South East Asia, much like the Uber application in other countries. The launch was successful in Malaysia, so the business decided to expand in the Philippines. GrabTaxi was officially launched in the Philippines in August 2013, and two months later in Singapore and Thailand.  The target market of the company is the people who commute since it is very difficult to commute in the Philippines. Since the concept of a scheduled taxi ride is new to the ears of Filipinos, people were enticed to use GrabTaxi. The concept of GrabTaxi is simple, as the company was also testing the waters in the Philippine market. It had a successful launch since it was the first authorized ride-sharing app in the Philippines, beating Uber in the race. GrabTaxi was renamed as simply Grab, and has been successful in their business since 2013.
