How can Saudi Arabia cope up with the phenomenon of Globalization?
Globalization is a double-edged sword in Saudi Arabia. It has the power to shape a nation’s economy, political structure, and culture. It also has the power to urge states to cooperate towards solving transnational problems. It is in the local government’s decision on whether they will fully adapt to the fundamentals of globalization, or to integrate globalization with reservations. Here are three possible policies Saudi Arabia can establish in the international arena. First, the government can reiterate its Western and other Asian partners that the only goal of the partnership is for economic development and promotion. Other aspects such as, political structure, religion, and culture are off-limits by outside influence, and should be respected before the partnership takes effect. Second, globalization policies that undermine the sovereignty of the government and the religion and culture are strictly not allowed. For instance, communication systems can be improved by installing more sophisticated technologies. However, illegal websites and online content will still be unavailable to the public accordingly to the laws in Saudi Arabia. And lastly, Saudi Arabia can use globalization to its advantage by promoting tourism and the rich culture. Foreign visitors get to understand and immerse themselves in the astonishing traditions of Saudi Arabia. This will help mitigate the effect of foreign influence if foreigners get to understand the depth and importance of the culture to Saudi Arabians.
