What can we do to preserve the Philippine culture?

History is a dying college major in the Philippines. Most students choose other courses, thus, creating a shortage in people who know world history and Philippine history by heart. Younger generations do not even know who Dr. Jose Rizal is, and his contributions to the freedom of the Filipinos. Aside from that, students do not think history is an important subject in school, therefore, more people are protesting to remove the history course in the current curriculum. This is dangerous because Filipinos will forget their roots and what our ancestors fought for in the past. Aside from that, learning history prevents it from happening again. When people turn their backs on recognizing the importance of history, they are also pulling their roots away. This should not be the case since passing our heroes’ stories through the history subject in school is a way of honoring their service for our homeland.
